Denver, CO Sporting Events

April 28, 2017 | Denver, CO Entertainment & Event Guide

Denver sporting events swing with full pride. High energy events range from the Mile High’s star football team games—yes, the NFL’s Denver Broncos did win the 2016 Super bowl!—to national baseball, hockey, soccer and lacrosse teams.

Football

The Broncos fan-ship is so dedicated to Sunday football that ski traffic is noticeably different from a Saturday to a Sunday—regardless of snowfall. No one can miss the team’s iconic horseshoe-shaped home stomping ground: Mile High Stadium.

Bag Policy: Each ticket holder may bring one clear bag no larger than 12” x 6” x 12” Or a one-gallon clear freezer bag. Fans can also carry a small clutch or purse no larger than 6.5” x 4.5”.

Bike Parking: Enjoy a bike ride along the South Platte Trail of the Denver bike trail system then park your wheels among the stadium’s 300 bike racks. In 2014, the Broncos and Denver B-cycle introduced the Broncos Bike Valet, located adjacent to parking lot J and outside of Gate 4—free of charge. Any donations will go to Denver Bike Sharing nonprofit which operates the Denver B-cycle program.

Light Rail: The Sports Authority Field at Mile High Station and Decatur-Federal Station

provide access to the stadium with a short, 8-minute walk. Grab a regular, one-way light rail fare. You can also purchase a round-trip ticket when at your boarding station in order to avoid delays post-game. Check out the light rail lines to find your best route.

Baseball

The Colorado Rockies baseball team calls the Coors Field home: in 1999, this baseball park was identified as the “most prolific offensive ballpark ever created.” Within its parameters, American League teams have made historic swings including one of Mark McGwire’s only home runs during his on-point 1998 season. Not to mention, a ball can travel 9 percent further at 5,280 feet above sea level than it can at 400-foot high Yankee Stadium. From the mascots to the songs to the hot dogs, don’t miss the ball game and all of its fun!

Coors Field is located right downtown, so you can quickly walk, bike or light rail to a number of excellent restaurants and watering holes.

Bag Policy: You can carry soft-sided bags and containers that 16”x16”x8” or smaller. No liquor, glass bottles or metal can are permitted through the gates. Banners and signs need to be tasteful.

Bike Parking: Bike parking areas are located adjacent to the Wynkoop ticket windows at Gate E; across from Gate B at 22nd and Blake Streets; and outside Gate A. There are also a very limited number of spaces on Blake Street, between 20th and 21st.

Light Rail: The fast and most efficient means of transportation to Coors Field, there are three Light Rail stations convenient to the ballpark: the most convenient stop is Union Station. The Light Rail runs daily. For specific route and fare information, check the Light Rail section of the RTD website—rtd-denver.com.
